FIS Cross-Country World Cup is an annual cross-country competition. It is held by the International Ski Federation (FIS) during the winter season from October to March.
The first official World Cup was held in the 1981-1982 season. Prior to that, unofficial competitions were held from 1973-1974. In the 1996-1997 seasons, sprint races were included in the program.
Competitions are held in the following disciplines: individual race, mass start, biathlon, relay race and sprint.
The results of athletes in individual races are expressed in points, the sum of which ultimately determines the winners of the Cup among men and women.
The main prize of the World Cup is a crystal globe. Awarded to the winner of the season for men and women.
